“For people living in underdeveloped countries like in Africa, really what they see on the ground is what translates into climate change.”

On the eve of the historic UN climate summit in Copenhagen this month, Nobel Peace Laureate and founder of the Green Belt Movement Wangari Maathai visited the UK to give a lecture on “Climate, Community and Copenhagen.”
 
“I’m going to Copenhagen to talk” she said, “which I’m very good at.”
 
On behalf of Africa Talks Climate, Jonathon Porritt asked the Kenyan environmentalist about levels of public awareness of climate change in Africa, political engagement of governments with the issue and the role of the media in helping people to understand the importance of climate change.
